Jeremy Hutchison’s Err project – what it means to Chinese Arts Centre

Chinese Arts Centre is delighted to be showcasing, Slade Graduate and recent Saatchi Sensations artist, Jeremy Hutchison's work in our First Step space. Jerremy's 'Err' project looks into the possibilties of what happens when you 'lodge and error in the smooth wheels of globalisation'. The works showcased represent a collection of objects, made by indiviudal factory workers with a specific design fault of their own choice. From the 17 collected objects, 8 came from China - and these 8 unique objects now sit within the First Step space, along with correspondance between, artist, factory and worker.

Both Jeremy and fellow artist, Chris Shen, came along to install the work last week, and both found the job of installing the objects in our stairwell space an interesting challenge. The objects are curious in themselves, but now sit invitingly and with a clear charm and humour within the centre's tall stairwell.

In a time where mass production and globalisation is the driving the force of our international econony (and thus tends to define our changing relationships between East and Western business) - it is refreshing to see these indvidual objects from China sit together as the 'Err' project here at Chinese Arts Centre.
